Episode 1

For our debut collection we created our own textile called Alu which is a byproduct of pharmaceutical packaging. We collect a composite of Aluminum which is a byproduct of pharmaceutical packaging (often seen in the backing of blisters containing tablets and capsules).

Aluminum and plastic are combined to create this high strength material. Once the process eliminates this waste it is very difficult and resource intensive to separate the two materials, which makes it close to impossible to recycle it in a traditional way as pure aluminum and plastic. It ends up being incinerated or in landfill. We thought we’d use this as a challenge and create a new textile without having to segregate the components.

We worked with handloom weavers to get the discarded strips of Alu to become a luxurious and durable textile. We then constructed a collection of bags and accessories that are beautiful and sustainable.
